Seeing Red

So I want to paint my living room red. I know it's a hard colour to go about, in terms of making sure you get the right shade, but I just really want my living room to be warm and cozy. Right now it's painted a very pale, very cold feeling, purpley/grayish colour, and it just feels so cold and empty. I want to walk into the room and feel like it's warmer and cozier and comfortable. See, here's the thing. I only have one window in there and it doesn't get any light during the day, the only time there really is any light that gets to it is in the evening when the sun is setting (on those rarer and rarer sunny days). So there in lies the problem. Am I going to be making a mistake by making it feel small and in closed? Or will it have the effect that I want, warm and cozy?

Try maybe one accent wall, or even three! Then pillows and throws to make it even cosier. I have the same problem with my place (can't paint the apartment). I put up bamboo blinds under my curtains and found that warmed it up too.
